The Songs Of Taylor Swift, taught by Ed Johnson

Cost: $40

Learn to play six songs from Taylor's Grammy winning album of the year, "Fearless." All music will be provided, with vocal parts in standard notation and guitar parts in tabulature with chord diagrams. This class is open to all ages; anyone with a working knowledge of basic first position chords and some experience playing with a flat pick or with fingers. An occasional bar chord may appear, and you may learn a few new easy chords you didn't know before as well. What you will need for this class: A guitar in good working condition and a capo. Recording devices are welcome.

The 2010 Spring Class Series begins Monday April 5th!


Classes run 8 weeks on Monday evenings, from April 5th through June 7th (classes will NOT meet April 19th and May 31st). Class length is 80 minutes. Cost for each class is $195. Take two classes and receive a $10 discount. Take all three and receive a $30 discount! AND, if you present a receipt for purchasing tickets to my April 20th show at Yoshi's with Novo Termpo, you will automatically receive an additional $10 discount on any class!!

Pop and Rock Hits for Acoustic Guitar - Learn a wide ranging repertoire of classic and contemporary gems from artists such as The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones, Green Day, Sting/The Police, Ingrid Michaelson, Michael Buble, Elton John, Beach Boys, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, and more! We'll use both fingerstyle and flatpicking techniques to lay down solid grooves. All material will have tab and standard notation. (Monday 5:45-6:55PM)

The Blues In All Shades - This class is an overview of a variety of blues styles and techniques, all adapted to acoustic guitar. We'll cover a repertoire ranging from Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and Blind Blake to Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Freddie King. We'll use finger style and flat pick techniques. All music presented in tabulature format. (Monday 6:55-8:05PM)

Brazilian Grooves, Repertoire, and Ensemble Playing - Acoustic stringed instruments such as guitar, mandolin, bass, cavaquinho (the precursor to the ukelele) as well as vocalists and light percussion will have a great time learning to blend with each other, playing complementary parts that create an infectious groove. We will cover traditional and modern samba, bossa nova, samba pagode, baião, forro, and choro. Written handouts will be given weekly. Level guideline: Guitarists should have some prior experience with playing moveable chord forms. Mandolin players should already be able to play some tunes and be familiar with basic chords. Cavaquinho and ukelele players should be well-versed in the basic chord forms for those instruments. Bassists should have some prior experience in any style. For singers who would like to participate, all you need is an ability to sing on pitch and a willingness to learn songs in Portuguese. Come experience the varied and unique musical styles from this vast country with a rich cultural heritage! (MONDAY 8:10-9:20PM)
